The Year 1 class teacher is Mrs Avery

Our Classroom is fun and engaging and always updated with the most wonderful pictures and work shared by Cherry Class children.
Here is an overview of the learning for terms 1 and 2 :
English - We will be reading the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and exploring the adventure theme found fiction genre.
Maths - Place Value within 10, Addition and Subtraction within 10 and Shape
Science - The focus will be on Seasonal Changes, weather, what we might celebrate during the months of each season, look out for or notice when one season turns to the next. This will be followed by learning about everyday materials.
Re - The children will think about what Christians believe God is like and why Christmas matters to Christians.
PE - Over our two sessions a week we will enjoy some yoga, balance and spinning, and practice how to play target games.
History and Geography - Looks at The Gunpowder Plot, Rosa Parks and the children will investigate what the country of The United Kingdom is like.
Music - Is understanding how to find the pulse and exploring rhythms whilst analysing music from different genres and picking out the instruments they can hear being played in each song.
Online Safety - will concentrate on our online relationships and how privacy can be protected.
Computing - Improving mouse skills and learning about what algorithms are.
Design Technology - Exploring windmills and what is required to create a stable structure.
PSHE - With the help of our friends Jigsaw Jack and Jerrie Cat, we will discuss how everyone should feel welcome in the classroom, have roles and responsibilities and recognising that choices have consequences. We will also be identifying similarities and differences within our class setting, accepting and understanding, thinking out bullying and celebrating difference.
