Governors

THE FEDERATION OF ST MARTIN'S AND SEABROOK

CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The school's governing board consists of 13 governors, supported by a clerk with the option to appoint associate governors when necessary. The governing board has three core functions:
 (1) Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the federation and its schools
(2) Holding the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the federation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
(3) Overseeing the financial performance of its schools and making sure their money is well spent.

Each member of the governing board has specific responsibilities for the monitoring of identified targets in the federation improvement plan and also the statutory functions of the governing board, reporting back regularly to the full governing board.

Governors are unpaid but may claim allowances in accordance with the governors' allowances policy.

The executive headteacher manages the schools in the federation on a day-to-day basis within the guidelines set down by the governing board.

Diversity

As a school, we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices, and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

  • target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
  • develop and adapt practices to ensure full participation
  • prioritise training and awareness-raising in identified areas
  • address potential 'blind spots' by seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges, and risks

Due to our relatively small governing board, we will not publish this diversity data online as individual governors could be identified and we have a legal obligation to protect their personal data.

Why do we need a Governing Body?
