Term 3 and 4 - Vikings and Anglo-Saxons
For the next 2 terms our class topic will be 'Vikings and Anglo-Saxons'.
The class will be looking into the main historical events that occurred during the period of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and taking part in discussions about the changes that they brought into our country. We will be focusing our geography on where they came from and the way in which Britain was separated during this time period.
The children will be exploring persuasive text types in English. The majority of our learning will be focused around persuasive advertising. The class will have the chance to visit the Taylor Wimpey site at Shorncliffe Heights to assist them with their understanding of selling and persuasive advertising. They will use their research to help them with their own advertisements at the end of the term. I am looking forward to seeing the weird and wacky houses that they design to sell!
Our class text for guided reading will be Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd-Stanton which we will be unpicking in order to build on the children's existing comprehension skills and confidence in reading.
In science we will be investigating sound during Term 3 and state of matter in Term 4. The children will have plenty of opportunities to make predictions and carry out investigations.
