Term 4 - A Knight's Tale
Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term.
This term we have kick-started our topic 'A Knights Tale' with some fantastic teamwork. The children were given a range of collage materials to make their own castle and the finished products were fabulous. We were amazed at how many children had visited the local castles and their existing knowledge about them.
In maths the class will start the term with measuring using m, cm and mm. They will learn how to estimate and calculate perimeters of shapes and other objects and solve problems relating to this. At the end of the term we will be moving onto fractions so get ready to buy cake and pizza to help them with this!!
In English we will be continuing to work hard on our Talk for Writing. The children will be developing their existing knowledge of story writing to create their own suspense stories. We will be using The Thing in the Basement book as a basis for their writing.
In science the children will be having lots of fun learning all about rocks and soils. They will have the opportunity to excavate rocks and test them for permeability and strength.
*Swimming is on a Monday at the Folkestone Sports Centre - Please send swimwear, towel and goggles and swim hat if wanted. PE in school is on a Tuesday afternoon which will be gymnastics.
*Spelling mats have been sent home and we will be having spelling tests on these words throughout the term.
*Home learning has been sent home - complete 2 or more pieces of homework by the end of the term. Please encourage your child to take as much ownership of these tasks as possible.
