This term we are studying the lives of children in the Victorian period, the lives of poor children compared to that of those from wealthy families. As a part of this topic we will be reading the book 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty.
This book is the true story of a boy who escaped from a workhouse and was eventually saved by Dr Barnardo. a lot of our English and writing work will link to this book and the plight of the poor Victorian children.
In science we will be learning about Evolution and Inheritance, in which we will explore the work of some famous scientists, many of whom are from the Victorian Era.
Christianity is the main focus for RE this term, by exploring the messages of the Gospels the children will be learning the importance of building good foundations for living.
In Year 6 we have been very excited by the list of 100 books you should read before leaving primary school. It has been wonderful to see the children so inspired to read and explore a range of books and authors.
We are busy trying to gather up as many copies of the books on the list as possible, we have found many in the classrooms and the school library, I have raided the shelves of my own children and we have had some donated.
The list has been added here in case any of you has any copies of these at home that you would be willing to lend or donate to our class library.
